Significant practical experience in the hard sciences as a molecular biologist as well as over twenty years of multidisciplinary aviation experience. I would describe my teaching style as "facilitator" considering the fact that I am able to come up with questions that lead the students to finding the correct process and answers on their own.
During high school I tutored at an elementary school during two summers for over 300 hours. From January-April 2013 I tutored the AVID program for 17.5 hours a week for all grade levels. From these experiences, I have learned how to encourage and instruct a variety of personalities and skill levels.

Spanish, Biology, Chemistry and sciences tutor

I majored in Biochemistry and Pharmacology at the UNAM in Mexico City. Along with extensive coursework in Biology, Micro Biology, Chemistry, and related subjects, I also worked extensively in the lab conducting experiments connected with these subject areas. I can also tutor Spanish since it is my native language. I have great references from students I am currently working with.

Individual & Group Tutoring. Project-Based Enrichment

I have extensive experience as a k-12 and adult teacher of all subjects (excepting advanced math and science) and as a teacher of technology to all ages, including technophobes:) I offer specific subject tutoring, as well as project-based enrichment programs tailored to a student's interest. My experience is wide-ranging. I have taught home school groups in mixed age groups, created a wilderness eco-learning program in Hawaii, and managed a computer lab for middle/high school students that also trained teachers and developed technology-based curriculum. A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked within schools for the past six years. I also completed two student teaching requirements for my state certification. I have worked in schools both in Pennsylvania and in Florida in a volunteer capacity within the classroom. I have worked both with groups of students on projects, as well as with individuals who required more personalized instruction to meet their needs.
I believe in using all the resources available in order to be an effective teacher. Each student is individual and requires a different approach to learning. I believe it is imperative to address all the learing styles of your students. The key to teaching is the ability to interpret your students and tailor your teaching style to meet their needs.

The students of today will be the first generation to collaborate on a global scale and it will be necessary that they have an understanding of cultures other than their own if they are to succeed. This is where I feel that having knowledge of history and current events plays a crucial role. I believe that to truly know where you are going you have to understand where you have come from. I fully intend to give my students the experiences they need to become knowledgeable partners in the global community.
The two main philosophies I try to live my life by are giving back more than what has been given to me, and always leave something in better condition then I found it. Life has not always been an easy road, but through hard work and determination I have risen above any adversity life has presented. I believe the juxtaposition of these philosophies with the leadership skills acquire ... read more

I have had some very patient and supportive teachers and mentors throughout my education, which extended well into my adulthood. As a result, I tend to be very compassionate, understanding, and supportive of the students that I have taught and mentored. I tend to be thorough, provide a constructive learning environment, and motivate students to succeed. I am most proud to have had the experience of getting my lowest acheiving students to become some of the highest achievers and proudest students by the end of the school year. I tend to be able to motivate both the best and poorer performing students to be able to succeed by setting goals and achieving them.
I have enjoyed the opportunity to teach students to excel at several different levels during my career as a research scientist. As a graduate student, I tutored and mentored students in the local middle school science researc ... read more

I took every math course offered by a 4 year college, student taught for one 6 week session, and took some educational courses. After home educating my 4 children for 17 years, I returned to school to complete an AA degree in liberal arts and a BA degree in sociology. I now work as a math teacher working with children who range in age from 9-17 and have special needs.
I never give up on a child or an adult. I recently tutored a law enforcement official to help him understand and pass algebra. He didn't think anyone could help him. The schools told me my son would never learn to read or write. He is my only child out of four who reads lengthy books for pleasure. Everyone has a different style of learning. My teaching methods I alter to suit those needs. I spent three years trying to help my dyslexic son learn to read one sentence. I have patience and I love helping people. I a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

At college I worked as a tutor for two years in the areas of chemistry and mathematics. I earned BA's in chemistry and biochemistry and have some laboratory experience. Having been educated at a liberal arts school has also given me the opportunity to study philosophy and sociology. I also write well, as writing is emphasized in all disciplines of study at Knox. Previous to my college education, I was also active in my tutoring program in high school.
The most important part of teaching is to teach students the principle or concept behind a subject. I do not believe in making students memorize absurdly large lists of facts in order to pass a test. Learning should be more fundamental than that. When a student has been successfully taught something, the student should be able to solve an array of problems with a common theme.
