A Little Bit About Me...

I would very much like to enter the teaching world so that I might share the knowledge that I have acquired over the years. I feel I would be an excellent tutor as I would be very patient and understanding of the challenges for young students. I definitely believe we can and should be teachers for the next generation. I would strive to share my enthusiasm for math and science.
As the manager and head chemist of a solid fuels testing laboratory I have many years of experience training both high school and college interns. When tutoring I usually ask prompting questions to assist the person in working through a problem. By building off of the skills the student already has it helps them better understand the process. If a student is learning new material or does not understand the way something was explained I will try to come up with an alternative method. I will go through an example with them step by step ensuring that they understand what happens along the way. I try to relate problems to real life so that they will remember what they have learned better.

As a private piano teacher, I have worked with students ranging in age from 4 years old to adult. I manage all scheduling, communication and finances for my private piano studio. My approach to teaching involves finding the best learning venue for each individual student. I don't believe in 'fitting' the student to the method, rather finding the method that works for each individual. I use phonetics when that is the simplest method, the challenge of games/competition when that is what clicks for my student. I have even used graphics to create a learning environment for students who lack imagination! The goose-bumps I get when I see the 'lightbulb' of recognition turn on in a student's eyes remains my reason for wanting to share the pursuit of knowledge with everyone!
