When tutoring I usually ask prompting questions to assist the person in working through a problem. By building off of the skills the student already has it helps them better understand the process. If a student is learning new material or does not understand the way something was explained I will try to come up with an alternative method. I will go through an example with them step by step ensuring that they understand what happens along the way. I try to relate problems to real life so that they will remember what they have learned better.
I have taken more than the amount of credits I need to graduate with a BA in mathematics from Luther College. I have minors in physics and chemistry. I have always enjoyed math. A Little Bit About Me...

My interest in learning styles began with studying language-learning and now applies on a daily basis to my private piano teaching. As a teacher, I have been described as patient but exacting, gentle but direct. I like to use friendly humor to correct and/or redirect a student, and I make a concerted effort to ask my students questions in an effort to help them "diagnose" the trouble that they are having and possible solutions. Tutoring was my link to the creative challenge of showing people a way to enter the world of books, or create a monthly newsletter for their charity, or publish a catalog of services available to those in need.
