Experienced and Proactive Educator

Experienced and New York State Certified teacher. I have over 10 years experience teaching students in grades 1-12 and 5 years experience teaching adults. I also have extensive tutoring experience. I have an MA from Marist College as well as a BA from NYU. I have designed and taught SAT prep classes (verbal/writing portion) as well as developing curriculum integrating diverse domains of knowledge to create a broad, deep and flexible learning experience for students.
I believe that competence and confidence are BOTH important in learning. Students bring their own knowledge and learning styles to the process. It is the teachers job not only to adapt instructional style to best support the learner, but also to help the student understand his or her own learning style and needs.

I love teaching children of all ages. I believe that all children can learn. We, as teachers, just need to find the right way to reach each of our students as everyone learns in a different way at different speeds. This is why I like tutoring because I can devote one on one attention to the student I am tutoring for the day. I can tutor your child in all areas of the elementary curriculum. I am patient, easygoing and considerate. I want to make a difference in the lives of our children and give them the opportunity to reach their fullest potential.
I am currently a teacher in my local school district. My experience is with students from Pre-k through grade 5. I specialize in children on the autistic spectrum and ADHD. I am currently tutoring a student with ADHD in reading strategies and spelling and decoding strategies for reading.

A Little Bit About Me...

Upon my decision to return to college and obtain my BS degree, it was discovered that I possessed an uncanny, natural talent involving all aspects of the studies surrounding English. Reading, comprehension, symbolism, poetry, creative writing, poise, maturitym ,ect. After that placement exam, it was decided that I did not have to take any English courses, or, I would take more advanced courses. I did choose the latter. Throughout the last 10 years, I have helped my husband, brother, all of my children, etc. I have tutored them on how to write a well developed paper on their topic of choice, and have it read showing the expertise of the writer. I possess the same talents when it comes to proper grammar. I also teach Catholisim to the 8th grade once per week for 2 hours. I prepare them for the sacrament of confirmation. That is very challenging.
I do enjoy helping anyone write ... read more

I truly enjoy presenting people with ideas and having them gain the knowledge and capacity to gain the intended results. I have taught and mentored people within my work setting as well. I believe that it is most important to create a learning environment that allows a student to feel successful every step of the way. Many years ago, as a Juvenile Probation Officer I discovered that there are three key ingredients to working with young people: trust, sensitivity and encouragement. Beyond the goal of mastering course materials, I would strive to instill in the student that I tutor, that he or she is worthy and capable. It’s very much a balancing act: A student should know that I am approachable, friendly and interested, but at the same time establishing and maintaining the proper boundaries between student and teacher.
