Being in college for four years exposed me to social environments that I normally wouldn't have been able to encounter on a day to day basis. Whether I was learning on my own, working with or helping fellow classmates, or even just observing how the professors worked with us, I was always learing new concepts or methods of how to interact with a wide variety of characteristics in a diverse group of people. In January of 2008, I was hired to work at the University of Akron – Wayne College Learning Center as a peer tutor. We are responsible for helping students that come in seeking tutoring (including test preparation and homework help). Over the past two plus years, I have tutored students in mathematics (college level basic math 1 through calculus one) and chemistry. Over the past three and a half years, I have been working towards a degree in Chemical Engineering so I have familiarity with math through multivariable calculus (called Calculus three on our campus) as well as differential equations and chemistry: inorganic chemistry, biochemistry, and organic chemistry.

A Little Bit About Me...

My main goal is to try and make the subject as much fun and easy to understand as possible. I never give away answers and instead try to lead the student toward the answer, giving them the chance to figure it out as we go along. I try to break more complex ideas down into concepts that are easier to understand. I often tell students that Chemistry is not as scary as some people say, it just needs to be explained properly.
I have loved Chemistry ever since I was in high school. I continued on to pursue my BS in Chemistry and learned a lot, not only in that field, but also in many areas of math as well. I have continued on in my education and am currently in the final year of my PhD, studying Polymer Science. During the last 3-4 yrs, I have tutored students mainly in Chemistry, both at the high school and college level.
