A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught special education since August of 1989. I began at Dunn Middle School with a mildly mentally handicapped self-contained class. After three years I taught for one year at Clayton Primary in a multi-handicapped class. I then transferred to Four Oaks Middle School in 1993 where I continue to teach. The first year there I taught a self-contained mentally handicapped class, and since then I have taught through the inclusion model. Through co-teaching I work with the regular education teachers in grades six, seven and eight in the areas of math and language arts. This has been a very rewarding experience as I have watched the self-esteems of all students, regular and special education students thrive and experience success. I have worked as an elementary education teacher for 24 years. I attended East Carolina University and have completed 24 hours of graduate-level work towards a masters degree. I graduated magna cum laude and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa as well as the education honor society. I have worked at a local tutoring center as well as having done private tutoring. While serving as a child-care center director, I wrote and helped to implement a curriculum for children ages 3-8.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a very unique teaching style that enables my students to have fun while learning. I can easily see the individual needs of all of the students I teach. Each and every student that I teach is first and foremost a human being. I treat them as I would like my own children to be treated. My first tutoring experience was in my freshman year of college. I tutored basic college algebra and calculus. Having earned two bachelor degrees in both math and physics. I feel I have a good understanding of not only the theory but also the applications of math to science. Tutoring both privately and publicly has also increased my speaking and presentation abilities.
