After graduation, I taught on a transitional teaching license. I taught in the Woodburn School District. I then went to Japan and taught English as a second language. I grew up between Bolivia and the United States and speak Spanish and English fluently. I took statistics in university and taught math in Spanish from time to time as a substitute for the Woodburn School District. In Woodburn I taught a self contained classroom for a while. I believe that the most important element of teaching and tutoring is the ability to vary one's teaching style to meet the learning style of a student. I am patient and comfortable explaining things multiple times and in multiple ways. I believe I have the creativity to help any student find a way to make sense of his or her material. I believe firmly in experiential education, in which subject matter becomes alive to the learner through activities or other practical approaches. I believe that students with all ability levels can master the subject matter with the proper support and the right approach and I believe that I am perceptive enough to be able to find such an approach for any student. I have taught grades first through sixth in Phoenix, Oregon and in Redmond, Oregon. I taught in two magnet programs, one was with an emphasis on early childhood best practices with a focus on literature, writing, and creative projects. The other was with intermediate grades using Mini Society, a program incorporating economics. I also was an instructor for the Home School Program through the High Desert Education Service District. I was the facilitator for Talented and Gifted Programs in Redmond School District for many years.
