I am a former UConn graduate (1984) with a BS in Marketing. Many of my electives were in mathematics, enabling me to work as a student tutor on campus. I have also completed coursework in anatomy and physiology. In addition to tutoring college level students I have worked with elementary and middle school children in church youth groups, assisting with bible verse memorization and reading skills,as well as staging music productions. My experience also includes homeschooling my own children and assisting in classrooms.
My teaching style is relaxed, but focused. I believe all children can be natural learners, especially when they find something that interests them. Patience is the key with children. A diverse education at Wesleyan University has prepared me to tutor many high school subjects. I earned my BA at Wesleyan in Music but I almost double majored in Environmental Science. The high expectations of professors at Wesleyan pushed me to greatly improve my writing ability, with my music thesis earning me honors in music. I studied education at Montclair State University for 4 years but I have a always been a teacher. From leadership roles in high school to corporate training, I have a talent for being able to boil subjects down to their basics and provide true understanding. I understand that children (and adults) have differennt learning styles and try to tailor my approach to the specific needs of the student. The bilingual students I teach have a unique challenge in that the letters of the alphabet represent different sounds in English versus Spanish.
