I believe in Constructivism, whereby rudimentary skills are continually built upon; a combination of rote learning and discovery-based learning built upon a mastery of previously-learned concepts, plus testing in real-world scenarios to activate within the student the ability to apply learning through analysis and thought coupled with experimentation.
As one who holds a Bachelor's and Master's in the arts, I believe in the power of exploratory learning. I believe in an interactive learning environment where I am constantly asking students for their inputs and working through problems with them. This way, they become confident in their abilities to solve difficult problems and provoke critical thinking.
I am currently a graduate student in petroleum engineering. As an undergrad I worked as a mentor for a freshman in my major, helping him cope with school and advising him of the courses he needs to take. I also provide tutoring when needed. In high school I was part of a program called PEPP where high school students provided tutoring to middle school students. I was also involved in a program developed by my school's Honor Society where we tutor our peers in math and science courses. Additionally, I was a summer camp counselor for three summers and I was responsible for coordinating various activities for the children each week.
