A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated with my masters in math education in 2008 from SUNY Fredonia. During the school year, I am a substitute teacher. I have taught long-term at various districts in 7th/8th grades, as well as Algebra. Currently I am teaching summer school through a BOCES program, which includes Algebra and Trigonometry. During the school year I have tutored a Geometry student as well.
All students learn in a different way. Primarily, I will try to tutor to that students strengths, but I will include other ways as well. This is to allow the student various opportunities to better expand a topic they struggle with and gain more knowledge on that topic. My goal is to give students the confidence to succeed in the math classroom.

After receiving a degree in Sociology from a New York State University, I went on to earn a provisional teaching certificate in Biology. This allows the students to get a brief introduction to the day’s material before they work in groups on questions about the material. Teaching and working with children not only educates them but it educates myself in the process. I get to touch up on materials that the children are learning, as well as learn better ways to educate students. Patience is what I believe is the most important aspect of teaching. Children can become unfocused very easily. When children are distracted it may be very difficult to get them focused. Taking your time and making sure they refocus, can actually save time.
