Enthusiastic and Passionate Chess Tutor

When I teach I try to instill a deep love for the subject matter. My philosophy is that a student cannot be forced to learn but must want to learn. I achieve this by individualizing my lessons for each student and their playing style. Everyone learns differently and each lesson reflects this fact. Before our first lesson, I encourage students to tell me a little about themselves and to also send me some of their games. During our first lesson, I try to establish a baseline of skill and playing style. At the end of our lessons and, only If the student wishes, fun work may be assigned to reinforce concepts learned during the lesson.

A Little Bit About Me...

I currently work and teach at the International School of Tegucigalpa. I am a high school world history, psychology and comparative government. I have also taught economics at the high school level. I have tutored students in Language Arts at the high school and middle school letters. I am also literate in Spanish.
I really enjoy teaching and using a variety of educational methods to reach students. Some students respond much better to one-on-one teaching methods than they do in a larger class environment. I enjoy working with young children and high school kids. I believe that it is important to get anyone I teach to be active in the education they are recieving. I have 20+ years experience in the computer field and I had a 3.0 average in general studies. I have a BS in computer science and an AAS in microcomputer technology. Most of my education was self taught beyond high school. I've also tutored and mentored school age children for approximately four years when in college.
