I believe each student is different; therefore, I change how I approach my teachings based upon the individual.
In high school, I was on our school's speech team, I competed at the varsity level all throughout high school. I placed at every competetion, without fail. I placed in advanced English classes in high school, and tested in to the second level of English classes at Western Illinois University my freshman year. I have won state wide writing competetions, and have a poem published in a book of young writers. I went to school for Journalism and Communications, but am currently taking a year off. I have also taken and passed the Illinois basic skills test, and took 2 years of Special Education courses at Western Illinois University.

I graduated from the University of Iowa on May 15, 2010 with a BA in Elementary Education and a reading endorsement. Apart from my area of specialization, reading, I also took seven science courses at the University of Iowa, mainly in chemistry. My volunteer experiences have shaped the person who I am today, as I have completed over one hundred hours of volunteer work in schools and hospitals. I firmly believe that children are able to learn and grasp concepts more easily by relating the lessons and information to their everyday lives. If the material is presented in a manner where students can recall past experiences in their lives, it is much more likely to gain their attention and interest. My teaching style is learner-centered, constructivist, and practical. I believe that a teacher must get to know her students on a personal level to facilitate the best learning. By ascertaining a student’s current knowledge and beliefs about a particular subject, I am able to help students advance to their fullest potential.
