I strongly support the belief that all children are capable of learning if given sufficient opportunity. As a classroom teacher often facing as many as 37 students at one time, it was difficult to provide the appropriate learning environment for many of these children's needs. Through small group tutoring, however, the right learning environment can be created if the tutor fosters a positive relationship with the student. Developing such a relationship requires considerable patience and consistency on the part of the tutor. Creating such an atmosphere allows the struggling student to expect a reliable mentor to assist her with her studies, while best permitting me to work with the student according to his or her needs.

I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others and showing them something new. I feel a sense of reward when a student of mine realizes that they have a new concept. When the lightbulb comes on it is the best feeling in the world. I believe that given the right tools and the right environment all students can learn anything that they put their minds to. I prefer to use a hands on approach to education. I like to have the kids get engrossed in the subject matter by reading aloud and taking part in discussion sessions.
