I graduated from the University of Iowa in 1989. My degree is in Elementary Education with an emphasis in reading. I taught in the same school district for 20 years where I gained experience teaching first, second, third and sixth grade. I am currently employed as the Elementary Student Advisor with the school district that my previous school district recently merged with. It has been my experience (as well as that of friends in academia) that a great number of young people do not understand the nature of plagiarism, i.e., when to cite and why it is necessary to do so.
