Every child can learn, but they don't all learn the same way

I have been teaching for over 10 years. I am currently a second grade teacher. I tutor during the summers and have students of all ages, including middle school and high school. My comments on tutoring Poetry : My undergraduate English capstone course was in poetry. I cannot write it, but I can analyze it and write ABOUT it.

My main goal is to help my students become more confident in their own abilities to learn material, improve skills, and express their ideas. I will not give anyone all the answers, and I will not do all the work for anyone, but I will help anyone to achieve his or her goals by providing the tools for success. I firmly believe that if a subject seems incomprehensible, nine times out of ten it is the professor and NOT the intelligence of the student. Likewise, I believe lack of effort or motivation also play a significant roll when a student performs poorly. From early on in my high school career I understood that passing AP tests could mean graduating from college in 3 years, saving money for grad school, and a chance to get into the professional world sooner. That's exactly what I did. I had to take some summer school and intersession classes, but I endured. All the while I was involved with an organization on campus that worked to educate the student body on a number of environmental issues, worked with volunteers on events and campaigns, and trained my peers to take the same leadership that I did.
