While working at Excel Personal Development, I had the opportunity to mentor students ranging from elementary school to Middle School. Over the five years with the organization I have worked with at risk students that were diagnosed with mental diagnosis. While working with these students I was able to assist them in developing life skills, English, and mathematics. I have found that the best way to teach students is to have them do, not listen. Most students at any level are very unmotivated to learn if someone is lecturing at them or working at a pace that is above what they are able to accomplish. I tailor my lessons to the students needs and provide ample opportunities for practice, revision, and remediation when necessary. I want each student to feel a sense of accomplishment every day and I strive to help each child with whatever it is they may need.
