My comments on tutoring Literature : Literature includes all of the wonderful genres of literature. Students need to be exposed to the best of them in order to appreciate them and analyze them.

I believe that all students can learn to read and write with an approach individualized for each learner regardless of the age.
For the past three years, I have been teaching Writing at Austin Community College. Prior to that I taught teachers as an online facilitator for PBS. I typically employ the Socratic method: asking questions to discover what the student knows (or thinks he knows) and guiding his thinking toward discovering the knowledge himself. Both my three children and my Scouts have declared that they enjoy my teaching because it engages their interest and because it is frequently humorous (when the subject and the occasions permits). For three years, I have been a writing consultant for students at Rice University who took classes in rhetoric & composition. Some students have been ESL (English as a Second Language).
