I also have spent over 10 years studying French and spent a semester abroad in France, so I am familiar with all the aspects of language learning both as student and as a teacher. I have volunteered at Weaver Elementary in Maplewood,MN with ESL children in Kindergarten through fifth grade and I enjoy working with elementary students very much as well as any other students who need help with their language learning.

When teaching, I will be mindful of my position as a role model and the kind of learning I strive to promote of transformative learning among students. Transformative learning is a reciprocal--informative and uplifting for teachers and students alike. It is about opening hearts and minds and changing lives for all those involved in the process. I will consider myself a successful teacher when students feel personally changed by their participation in my classroom and when students are able to challenge their beliefs through the use of critical thinking while keeping an open mind. These are tools of empowerment and rewards of transformative teaching and learning.

More About This Tutor...

I embrace a unique passion for teaching children, especially for working with students on a one-on-one basis. I thrive on connecting with each student as an individual, and enhancing their academic lives in ways they may not get in other environments. I strive to "find" every child's gift, and celebrate it. I observe the strengths and weaknesses of each student, and work with the teaching team and parents to determine steps in building on each identified success and/or challenge. My dream is to forever work with children in an effort to provide them knowledge, safety, consistency, and love.
I designed and taught a first-ever prekindergarten program at St. Anne School in Somerset, WI. I also directed and taught children's programs with the YMCA for children age birth through prekindergarten, having received the YMCA Focus Award for Excellence in Children's Programs. I began teaching at a very young age. I began my own music lesson company which taught basic level of piano, guitar, saxophone and voice lessons out of my house before I began high school. After achieving my certificate of proficiency in Spanish from Hamline I then began to also privately tutor Spanish. I also have earned my TEFL/TESOL certificate and will eventually go abroad and teach English overseas.
I have worked mainly with children, but enjoy teaching all ages. I tend to take a systematic approach and keep my lessons structured. I like to have students keep some sort of record of their practice time, as well as their progress. I also am a strong believer in making learning fun, so I try to listen to my students' needs and pay attention to their learning styles so I can create activities that they will not only find educational but fun as well.
