Where would you like see yourself in the next year?

I am a student at Texas Tech University, who has a great amount of experience in mathematics. I am currently working on my bachelor's in mechanical engineering, I have been known to teach any subject very well and have been told that I would make a great teacher. Teaching style varies by student and by subject, and even varies according to my level of skill in the subject matter. I have been told that I make things that are confusing or hard to understand easy, and I love that 'I see' look in a student's eyes.

Got a degree at Texas Tech in mathematics with a minor in Mechanical Engineering. I have more experience with helping others who know what they are doing but needed that little nudge in understanding a certain subject. I specialize more in applied math rather than proofs or pure mathematics. I don't do a lot of tutoring nowadays but I understand how college is and how college students work. Take this advice: studying a lot is the way to really succeed and even the most brilliant students have to do it (try studying for actuarial tests and you'll find this out real quick!).
I like to go through the problem with the student. I will go through the steps as necessary and I like for the student to ask questions along the way.

Instructor vs. student. I love giving the student a problem to see if he/she can think his/her way through it after we have discussed the proper method to use to solve the problem. I find that if students are just simply told how to do things and shown, but never required to think about it for themselves, then the students will not be able to understand how to do the problems or think for themselves. It is important to allow the students time to put the effort into thinking about a problem without having someone tell them what to think at every step.

I have never been paid to tutor someone. My experience is limited to helping my mom with math problems, that deal with algebra based questions. A Little Bit About Me...

I prefer a hands on method where I give the student examples and I watch as they work through them. This is especially true in Math. I have found the best way for a student to learn is to correct mistakes as they go. Through repition this will bring success.

In my science teaching, I always utilized the learning by doing method by making use of field experience and laboratory exercises. In mathematics, I mostly attempted to teach my students good problem solving skills.
