I believe everyone has their own aptitude for learning and will endeavor to discover each childs unique style for learning to help them strive to do their best in each endeavor they apply themselves to. My goal is to provide the best education possible and work with their own unique personalities on how to get them there. My parents and educators were a big factor in my life growing up and I hope to pass along some of that insight, knowledge and passion for learning that they taught me. I have grown up in an education oriented household with both parents as teachers (Dad Chemistry and Mom English). Since earing my degree in CIS I have had 10 years of industry experience as well as having worked as a substitute teacher in both the Galesburg (CUSD #205, 200-2001) and Peoria (District 150,2007-Present) School Districts.

I graduated from Illinois State University in 2009 with a BS in Biological Sciences and I am currently working towards my certificate in teaching secondary education. I have experience teaching in lab settings, community college classrooms as well as tutoring at the high school and middle school level. I am passionate about Biology and have a lot of fun teaching it. I aim to make studying biology interesting to students and hopefully fun for them too. I believe that, with just a little help, anyone can learn Biology content and maybe even learn something they can use outside of the classroom!

I believe that each and every student has an ability to learn and it is necessary to find a method of teaching conducive to the individual. For example, I was a student that learned though hands on activities and writing. Having a teacher stand and lecture never appealed to me. Other children, and adults, may be more apt to retain through reading or repetition. It is important to identify a student’s strengths and weaknesses in order for them to get the most out of their academic careers. I am a very patient person and have a wide range of teaching strategies. I have had practical experience working as a microbiology level I technician for a major pharmaceutical company. I have really enjoyed teaching through coaching. Throughout my coaching career, I have worked with all different types of athletes who each learn things a little bit differently. Because of this, I have been able to practice presenting information in lots of different ways in order to get all types of learners to understand the material. As a student-athlete at Illinois State University, I learned many invaluable skills. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Physics as well as minors in both Mathematics and Exercise Science.
