I am a very patient teacher who treats students with respect. It is my goal to reach all learners and meet their needs from all ability levels and cultural backgrounds. I involve students in the learning process by giving them choices and input in project development, technology integration and enrichment/acceleration. I have taught elementary school for 16 years. One year in the Lincoln Country School District and 15 years in the Rockwood School District. I have taught grades 1,2,3 and 5. Having been a recent graduate, I have the advantage of knowing what students appreciate when they are being taught. Making art should have us engaged, educated, and liberated. I want students to enjoy art by helping them learn to work through frustrations: experimenting with techniques and exploring subject matter (color, value, shape, contrast, etc.) I give encouraging suggestions and provide freedom to promote self discipline. I take pleasure in working with community-oriented organizations, building my body of work, and emerging as a young artist. My skills are proficient in drawing but I am also disciplined in painting and sculpting. I believe that my creative strengths as an artist and my organizational skills make me an excellent art tutor. I want to work with others, guiding them to improve their skills with positive and constructive criticism.

I have a Bachelor's degree in History and an Associate's in Process Technology. I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society. I possess excellent math skills and took statistics in college. I enjoy helping others and feel I am a good fit for this position. I do not have a specific teaching style. Everyone is different, so one particular type of teaching style may not be as effective as another. In order to be effective, I think it is important to recognize the students strengths and weaknesses before embarking on a certain learning path.

My Major was an individualized major through the Honors College at Central Missouri State University (now University of Central Missouri). I studied literature, writing, grammer, editing, sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, and history. I was an assitant editor for Pleiades, A Journal of New Writing, and maintained the high academic standards of the Distinguished Scholar Award throughout my college career. This award was based upon performance in High School and each semester of college coursework, and paid all college expenses. As a student at the University of Chicago, I have tutored at the local Ray Elementary school through the Neighborhood Schools program. There, I tutored two fourth grade ESL students, an Italian boy and a Korean girl, primarily in math and reading. I have also tutored at the STRIVE tutoring center, helping a 7th grader and 8th grader with math and reading. As a mathematics major and a math whiz in high school, I have covered calculus and algebra material many times over and approached them in multiple ways (analysis, IBL, etc).
