My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : I hold a Masters in Literacy from NC State University. Currently I am a National Board Certified Teacher in Literacy and will hold this certification until 2019. My NC Teaching License cover Language Arts, Social Studies, Reading K-12, and Elementary Education.
I have taught reading from K to 12 and adult reading at the college level. My career has been wide and varied from teaching EC in the elementary school to suppervising graduate students at UNC-Chapel Hill in the Professional Development School.
Teaching Phonics was one of the main focuses of my research for my Masters degree.
My teaching style is very flexible depending on the student. I select programs which best fits the student, rather than forcing a student into a specific program that I prefer. My expectations are high for each student. When the expectations are set high, students tend to reach to meet these expectations. Thus it "stretches" each child to reach their maximum potential.
I began teaching in 1976 in Tarboro, NC. My first teaching experience was in the middle school, grade 8. After that year, I taught fourth grade for 6 years. My next assignment was teaching at a junior high school grade 8 Language Arts, and grade 9 Basic English, and Diagnostic and Prescriptive Reading.
