As ambitious a student in the classroom as in life I have completed over 180 college credits at age 24. With a preference in sciences most of these credits were completed however my interest expands far beyond the realm into most every subject. Proof of this is shown by the length of my undergraduate work, six years with enlightening pauses in between to broaden my mind through travel. Biology is my strong suit however math such as physics, calculus and even chemistry are heavily influenced in the major. At San Diego state I have completed the majority of these subject units. This institution is considered the number one small research university with a little help from students such as myself.

My teaching style is very Socratic. I rarely give answers to students. I love to have them search and discover the answers on their own. This involves a lot of questions and guiding the student to the correct answer. When students discover the answer on their own it is much more rewarding and long lasting for them. I firmly believe in fostering critical thinking and building students' logical reasoning skills. I constantly remind them that the skills they are developing with me are not just valuable in math but stretch into real world situations as well and will help them throughout their entire life.

Each child has a different learning ability. The best way I feel for success of a child would be a one to one or small group teaching style. This will provide the teacher to student kind of relationship where the teacher may know the level of each student. I try to repeat fundamentals so that students may have a solid foundation to build upon. I believe without a solid foundation a student might struggle harder in advance courses of study.

A Little Bit About Me...

I double majored in Biology and English with a Bachelor of Science degree from a very well known, highly esteemed University in Wisconsin. I went to Taiwan for two months from March-May 2010 and helped teach in a "Bushiban" or cram school to kids aged 6-15. I am currently looking for a full-time job relating to my degree.
Conversational. From what I learned in Taiwan little kids are not for me. This is the truth. Kids at about 14 or 15 and older are much preferred. I don't think I am animated enough for younger children...well, not a GROUP of younger children anyway. When it comes to one on one though, it is much different I am sure. I like to give ideas on how to sound out words, remember grammar/math tricks and things like that.

I like to see children succeed, especially if I contribute to that progress. Teaching has been personal to me as I have regularly helped my nephew many times with his homework when he was younger. My goal is for students to reach success - whether it is to help students understand a concept or to help them solve a problem correctly, I am reluctant to quit and I keep working until students are on the right path or until they have reached their goal. I aspire for students to reach beyond their horizon by attempting more difficult levels once they have mastered the level of learning that they are at.
Living with a disability has posed more challenges in my education than the average person, yet I have faced these challenges and overcome them. Like everything I do in life, I like to have a plan to go about working through situations. I have had many years as a chemistry tutor and I have come across many different people with different issues when it comes to learning chemistry. My understanding of chemistry allows me to approach a problem from different angles to help the tutee understand the problem. I believe anyone is capable of learning chemistry and I have seen many students who struggled with the subject turn their grades around. When I was a student, I had many inspirational teachers, and I for one would like to give back to the educational system and benefit people and inspire them to do well in chemistry and in their educational career in general.
As a recent graduate of the CSU East Bay chemistry program, I was given the opportunity to have personal instruction from many different professors. I was able to ... read more

I have participated in a 4 unit class where i taught Spanish to 8-11 year old children and it consisted of developing a plan that included songs and dancing to learn Spanish in a fun and animated way. I have done research on homelessness, and had an internship with a non profit that provides social services for those in need.
