My comments on tutoring Japanese : I am a native speaker of Japanese and I have been working as a Japanese language coach for almost a year now. I am passionate about teaching and I love meeting new people!

I always bring smiles to my class, and encourage students to speak and try to increase their speech time. One of the things I always do for my students is to praise their effort with my words or hand gesture to keep them motivate. I emphasize understanding the principle as opposed to just “getting the answer”. Sometimes a student will get frustrated with me because of that, but I’m committed to teaching how to fish and not just handing out fish. For example, with a mathematical problem, I may throw out additional problems revolving around the same principle at hand to make sure the student really understands as opposed to just getting past one question. Similarly, in a linguistic setting, after the student feels he or she understands the given word or grammatical structure, I will ask the student to construct additional sentences to make sure they really get it.
