A Little Bit About Me...

In 2000 I volunteered in the local high school's journalism class because of my passion for writing. The following year I was offered a position as yearbook adviser, and I further developed my skills with high school students. Since 2004 I have been a private tutor, teaching all elementary subjects as well as most middle school and high school curriculum. In 2005 I began teaching annual writing workshops at Simpson College for 6th - 12th grade students. In 2006 I attended substitute teacher training, and I began substitute teaching in 2009. I also had the privilege of instructing college students in a Volunteer Income Tax site this year.
I am firm, fair, and friendly. I adapt lessons to the student's learning style, bearing in mind what the student needs for success in the classroom. I make learning fun.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a student I have always been very ambitious and excited to learn. I graduated from high school in the top 5 of my class and graduated from college with honors. I have earned a bachelor degree in Physical Education and currently have a valid Iowa teacher's certificate. Throughout my education I have gained experience in teaching and working in many different settings. I have worked in the classroom with students in elementary, high school, middle school, special education, and Montessori settings. At the elementary level I have 2 years experience as a K,1st and 2nd grade combined teacher, three years as a 1st grade teacher and 1 year as combined 1st and 2nd grade teacher. In the area of special education I have taught students from age 3 to 16 with Mental Disabilities for 8 years. Currently I am working as a substitute teacher for the Carlisle Community Schools and Des Moines Public Schools.
My teaching style is that I believe all students can learn but that there are different learning styles and we must match the correct learning style with the student. A Little Bit About Me...

As a young R.O.T.C cadet, I was very driven to excel in my college education. On my way to becoming a young Army Officer, I earned two bachelor degrees, BA in Communications and BA in Accoutning. My liberal arts educations granted me opportunities to learn and excel in many arenas such as writing, math, science, and the social sciences. I learned the art of effective communication, writing extensive essays and reports, as well as giving many speeches to audiences of various sizes. I also feel very confident in my ability to relay material to others as I was a student ambassador for my college, helped R.O.T.C cadets excel in the classroom, and tutored before and during college.
