Calculus I Tutoring
Does just the mention of Calculus make you start to shake? Do differential equations, multiple integrals, exponentials and logarithms make your head spin? Whether taking calculus in high school or in college, understanding the concepts of calculus takes a lot of studying and a lot of effort. The longer a student waits to get help, the less likely they are to catch up in time to save their grade. Continuing to struggle without professional assistance will only put the student farther and farther behind. It is our job to provide the help the student needs when they need it. When you need a tutor for calculus that’s exactly what you get…a tutor that know calculus, not a study buddy.

Instructor vs. student. I love giving the student a problem to see if he/she can think his/her way through it after we have discussed the proper method to use to solve the problem. I find that if students are just simply told how to do things and shown, but never required to think about it for themselves, then the students will not be able to understand how to do the problems or think for themselves. It is important to allow the students time to put the effort into thinking about a problem without having someone tell them what to think at every step. I have been tutoring students in all levels of mathematics since I was a freshman in high school. I have tutored privately since I entered college, and even tutored in a paid position as an undergraduate in an on campus Math Help Lab. As a graduate student, I taught many classes to undergraduate including Elementary and Intermediate Alge

I like to go through the problem with the student. I will go through the steps as necessary and I like for the student to ask questions along the way. Got a degree at Texas Tech in mathematics with a minor in Mechanical Engineering. I have more experience with helping others who know what they are doing but needed that little nudge in understanding a certain subject. I specialize more in applied math rather than proofs or pure mathematics. I don't do a lot of tutoring nowadays but I understand how college is and how college students work. Take this advice: studying a lot is the way to really succeed and even the most brilliant students have to do it (try studying for actuarial tests and you'll find this out real quick!).

James S - Lubbock, TX 79414 (45.2 mi) - Calculus I Tutor - $37.50/hr.
In my science teaching, I always utilized the learning by doing method by making use of field experience and laboratory exercises. In mathematics, I mostly attempted to teach my students good problem solving skills. I taught 11 years, grades 6-12 in the subjects of mathematics 6-12, physical science, life science, earth science, biology, chemistry and physics at Union Schools, Brownfield, Texas and Plains Schools at Plains Texas.
I was a learning center director for 7 1/2 years and finally a director of Media and Technology at Education Service Center - Region 17 at Lubbock, Texas.

I have spent a career in science. I believe that quality one on one or small group teaching is the best way to improve an understanding of what can be complicated concepts and have them make sense. I am willing to meet either at your place, my house or a library where distractions can be minimized. Finally, my style of teaching includes a discussion to improve study skills so that we can assess then address your needs so that you can budget your time accordingly.
I am willing to teach in the junior high, high school or undergraduate levels. Since graduation college, I have been employed in the private sector of environmental chemistry laboratories. Part of my responsibilities include teaching and training new employees. This includes both the physical and chemical concepts as well as the math required to report results as produced by meters and instrumentation. Secondly, I tutor
