I've graduated from two interpreting training programs from two different colleges in two different states. ASL is a great passion of mine, as is the subject of psychology.I interact with people from the deaf community daily. I just finished interning through the Knoxville Center of the Deaf. Sign Language is one of my top subjects! I have many years of experience with the Deaf and Deaf/blind. Interpreting experience and have much exposure in the deaf world.

The love I have for the ASL started when I was vary young because of the relationship I had with my aunt . My aunt was both deaf and blind I remember her sitting alone when we had family diners and gatherings. When learning the language some in my family were shocked and even taken aback at my efforts. However, I'm now happy I can help others learn ASL. I have experience interpreting, working with deaf individuals with mental limitations and so much more!

My teaching style is very matter-of-fact and flexible. Some students learn by listening, others by reading, and still more by doing. It is my job to determine which students need which type of teaching. It's important to never let the student feel I am judging his abilities in a negative manner while still making sure he learns from his mistakes.
When getting my Bachelor's degree, English was my chosen major. I chose the subject because I love to read and write, and excel at both of those things. A Little Bit About Me...

I have 7 years of teaching experience at the Florida School for the Deaf teaching struggling readers at the high school level. I received the teacher of the year recognition award during my second year of teaching due to my ability to motivate and encourage all my students to enjoy the love of reading. In the evening, I also coordinated the tutoring program for 2 years as well as tutored for 4 years.
I believe that all children can learn. It is just a matter of getting his/her lightbulb to go off. I believe in a more active approach to learning and finding ways to "play" inorder to teach the skills needed to learn the concept. My goal is to make learning fun and enjoyable. Once a student sees that learning is fun, it will never stop. It becomes contagious.
