My comments on tutoring Reading : I am very secure in my reading skills and I have received high scores on all of my competency exams.

I have been teaching and tutoring students for more than 20 years. I currently provide online as well as in person tutoring to students in the areas of phonics and reading. I am an ESL teacher for a couple of online companies in China. I work as a substitute teacher for the public school system where I live and I am also pursuing a degree in Spanish at Arizona State University. I previously taught in a small private school that I founded. The school served students in grades kindergarten through second grade and it was founded with the idea of promoting literacy through the encouragement of world language learning. I teach beginning and emergent literacy skills in English, Spanish, Arabic, and Mandarin Chinese. I have also taught in two charter schools over a period of 15 years. During that time I served as a teacher in various areas, such as Kindergarten, First Grade, PreK, and Arabic. ... read more

Never stop learning!

I grasped the importance of education at a very young age and excelled throughout school. Early in my youth I also developed a sincere passion for helping fellow classmates who I saw were having difficulties comprehending course material. I had a knack for connecting with students, identifying the point of confusion, and creating different avenues to reach full comprehension of a subject matter. I have since went on to develop tutoring groups on all educational levels. I co-founded a youth group T.U.F.F. (Teach Us First Foundation) where we attend local elementary schools offering tutoring services in Math, English, Sciences and Social Studies. During high school I developed a teen study group entitled Let's Rap where we would meet (with professional tutors on site), assist each other with homework and discuss any material that was causing confusion in class. During my time at Albany ... read more

Reading is one of my top subjects! Throughout my teaching experience I have encountered students of all ages and abilities, from elementary students with reading difficulties to adult learners of ESL. My approach to teaching tutees how to read is tailored to each student's level because I believe that every student is unique with their own set of strengths and weaknesses. While I enjoyed teaching reading at High Point Elementary, I love one-on-one tutoring because of the complete attention I can pay to each student. My personality is encouraging, positive and patient, and that has served me well in building relationships at WyzAnt Tutoring and Thumbtack. My role is to help the tutee express themselves, use English correctly, and help expand his or her knowledge base.

I adapt my style according to the needs of my students because everyone has unique and different abilities.
My tutoring style is serious yet fun, and I bring a lot of patience and enthusiasm to my tutoring sessions. Students of all ages and abilities, from elementary students with reading difficulties to adult learners of ESL, have benefited from my services. My approach to teaching is tailored to each student's needs because I believe everyone is unique with their own set of strengths and weaknesses. With a background in psychology, I bring the added skill of communicating effectively with my students and quickly understanding their needs. My personality is encouraging, positive and patient, and that has served me well in building relationships with my students. My role is to help the student express their thoughts in a clear, concise manner, use English correctly, and help expan ... read more

We Can Succeed Together!!!

I have been tutoring independently since 2009 but have always liked helping others learn. I am good with math and numbers. Will go the extra mile to make sure the student/client understands that material. I like to provide as much feedback as possible to the student/client and build their confidence while tutoring them. I have worked with students as young as 5 years old teaching them how to count, numbers, etc to working adults in college and graduate school.

Ready to love learning

Adaptive. I have a background in experiential education and believe that the method is not as important as the end result of having assimilated, understood, and taught back the information. I believe in creative learning techniques and hope to inspire a love of learning alongside the discipline of learning itself.
I currently work as a substitute teacher at Riverside Military Academy. I've worked with elementary children and teenagers extensively. My most recent position serves twenty and thirty somethings in their personal and spiritual formation. I have published my writing, acted on stage, spoken before thousands and mentored dozens. My personal intent is to explore life, discover new things, tackle hard challenges and inspire others to do the same. I believe in the value of the individual and don't believe one-size-fits-all.

More About This Tutor...

Most of my experience is informal with tutoring family members/church members/friends in whatever areas they were struggling. Nearly everyone was pleased with what I was able to teach them and they showed improvement. In addition to tutoring, I have also mentored. In particular, at Emory University, I have for three years served as a mentor to incoming freshmen. I have helped them become acclimated to Emory and have also helped them create plans for courses and future plans. Therefore, I am confident in my tutoring and mentoring abilities.
I start out with discussing the area of weakness with the student and then try to investigate why this might be the area of weakness. Once this is discovered, I teach the student (through examples) until they understand the topic with which they need help. Then, I observe how they perform without my guidance and see if they have learned to comple ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

16 yrs. of instructing ESL at multiple levels: Grammar is my specialty. 5 yrs. of English Composition: primarily dealing with paragraph structure and essay development. 2 yrs. of Public Speaking instruction. 1 yr. of U.S. history taught through art and literature of specific eras. Learning never ceases; so, why should you?

My teaching style is a mixture of strict and lenient. I try to form a connection with students and apply that to my teaching method (i.e. incorporating a similar hobby in a question in order for the student to understand the material better). I expect my students to give me and the other students respect- never speaking while others are speaking, no disruptions, ect. This method of teaching has shown effective and a fun learning environment. I base my curriculum around the importance of reading. Reading is the easiest and most effective way of obtaining knowledge and using it in the world.
I have had the honor of working with many kids in regards to a variety of fields. My experiences taught me responsibility, patience, the importance of learning and education, and much more. The various teaching opportunities I have been fortunate to have have impacted my social and educational li ... read more

Reading is one of my top subjects!

I pursed a teaching opportunity to continue building knowledge in the Education field. My objective is to guide our children through the learning process, which includes diversity and richness of all cultures to help them prepare and develop his or her greatest potential. My objective is to assist in building a strong foundation of literacy skills and experiences in young children. This is critical for their success in school and in life.
