A Little Bit About Me...

As an English teacher, I have had the opportunities to work with many different ages and levels of students. From foreign kindergarten students through degree seeking college students and varying levels in between, I have learned many different skills to help me approach each learner with the tools that make learning easy and enjoyable. I have professional experience teaching Kindergarten, first grade, sixth grade language arts, and freshmen level college English. I believe working one-on-one with students can make a huge difference to help a students make progress. I think learning should be fun, and it can be fun if you go about it the right way. My teaching style is very unique. I believe that in order for a student to learn and retain information, they must be able to make a connection between the material that they are learning and their own life. Therefore I always ensure that I make real life connections when teaching skills. I show students how the material relates to their own lives and how it will be useful to them in the future. I also believe in allowing students to use their own critical thinking skills in order to solve problems. That means, that instead of teaching a student basic facts and details, I teach students how to think for themselves. I also enjoy using manipulatives and realia during instruction. A Little Bit About Me...

Throughout my career as a student, I have always prided myself on the ability to help others learn. When I was a high school student, I was the one other students would come to with questions, and I always gave an answer with confidence. Then I got to college and began to study Biology. I was so amazed at the broad spectrum of the sciences, that I decided to add a Chemistry component to my college degree. Through Chemistry I could better understand Biology. Then I realized that the whole time, I was increasing my ability to teach and learn, so I added an Education component to my college degree, and that has brought me to the point I am at now.
