My comments on tutoring Japanese : I studied for a month in Osaka, Japan, to augment my university Japanese classes. Native speakers certify that my pronunciation is extremely native-like

I employ the Socratic method of asking lots and lots of questions. I see a tutorial as not a time for a student to soak up information, but to engage the mind and use the tools he has already been given. Of course, if a student truly doesn't know something crucial, I will tell him. I always try to make my instruction at least a little bit funny, and to connect the material to the student's interests, because these factors are known to enhance learning.
I have five years' experience as a writing tutor at my university, during which I wrote and presented papers at multiple regional conferences for university writing tutors. I rose to become one of the most respected and requested tutors out of my peers. I many credit hours of pedagogy and teaching methodology classes, both for Teaching ESL and Latin, and a semester of student teaching under my belt.

A Little Bit About Me...

I started my education in Japanese language at Stow-Munroe Falls High School (Stow, OH) and continued studying it at the University of Mount Union (Alliance, OH). While studying at Mount Union, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Nagasaki, Japan. During my final year as an undergrad, I did a multimedia timeline project on the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, which included ten newspaper article translations from Japanese to English that were included in the project. I have also had the opportunities to teach English in Japan to elementary schools and a high school.

The methods of teaching I was instructed when I obtained my Bachelor in Education at the University of Akron Ohio, from 1989-1991, was the following Integrated, Whole language approach and Montessori. The method we were instructed to use in the Akron city school system was Integrated which uses basic and whole language approach language Arts. These integrated units allow us the opportunity to make sure children are learning relevant information and applying that knowledge to real life scenarios.
