I work hard at leading students to figure things out for themselves. But if they get too frustrated, I will spell things out more in detail. I draw a lot of pictures, but have learned that not all students find this helpful. So I try to present mathematics several ways: with numbers, with pictures, with symbols. After earning my doctorate in math in 1966, I began teaching at the University of Massachusetts as an assistant professor of math. While in high school I was choosen as a Top Student to be able to go and work for the summer and tutor grade school children. When I started I tutored 3rd students and the next year I was able to teach high school freshman Algebra. I enjoy working one on one with the students.
