I have worked with children for over 15 years in all areas of academic work, at all levels of proficiency. My students are successful in not only their academic work, but also in life through confidence building into the students. I enjoy the challenge of finding the path to achievement for individual students and have had great success in transforming the attitudes toward education for many students through after-school programs and initiatives I have pioneered.

Math and Science Tutor

I'm currently finishing my junior year as a chemistry major at The University of Arkansas at Little Rock. My minor is biology. Chemistry is a demanding field that requires knowledge in science as well as mathematics. My degree requires several math classes along witn chemistry classes. Before I became a chemistry major I was a biology major. I've had courses in microbiology, zoology, and anatomy & physiology. I've worked as a teachers aide at my college and I've also tutored at my college. I've obtained a 3.7/4.0 GPA in my studies. Tutoring comes easy to me because I'm such a people's person. I get along great with kids especially. I'm a very vibrant and confident person which also helps my tutoring abilities. My plans after obtaining my bachelors degree in chemistry is to continue on to medical school and become a doctor.

My comments on tutoring Trigonometry : 2 bachelor of science degrees and a land surveyor's license

my teaching style depends upon how that person learns. so many times you have young people that have very bright minds, but maybe they are a "visual" learners. in other words, they have to see it a certain way. i had teachers that i really loved and did well, but there were others that taught the same subject and i couldn't get anything out of the class.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have earned a BS in Chemistry and a minor in Math. I am currently working as a chemist, so I have kept up with all the new studies that are taking place right now. I have tutored all through High School, College and thereafter. I have a real passion for learning math, all sciences, and history. I hope I can pass this respect for these studies on to everyone I teach.
I believe we all learn in different ways, and I am always open minded in finding the best way for that student I am working with at that time. I believe everyone can achieve the highest of goals if we all strive for that success and find out a way to get there. However, most of all I hope I can leave a feeling of respect for the studies and for the people around us.

I excelled in mathematics at the Naval Academy. Frequently, I provided help to my classmates as an informal tutor. At the conclusion of two and a half years of study, I was ranked 7th in my class in mathematics. I followed the same pattern in high school. On some occasions, I was able to explain to the class a better way to solve a math problem than the teacher had given.
My philosophy is to first cut through the jargon than frequently confuses students. Often the underlying concept is easy to grasp, but has been made unnecessarily difficult because the text or teacher has used terminology that is confusing. This is particularly true in the field of mathematics. The writer, instructor or academic will begin by using a term which is ambiguous or has not been explained. The other principle that is important in mathematics is active participation by the student. To ... read more

I consider myself a facilitator, not an authoritarian. I ascribe to the principles set forth by Malcolm Knowels and Benjamin Bloom. I rely on the strength and motivation of the student. I hesitate to call myself "teacher." I think I serve better as a guide which, hopefully, leads his client not just to a more enlightend place, but also to the place the client wants to be, or had in mind in the first place.
I started teaching Music in 1984. I taught part-time, temporary while pursuing education goals and working as a professional musician. In 1998 I became an adult educator, and in the following nine years I taught GED, Workforce, Computer and ESL. I learned to speak Spanish from some of my ESL students. Today I run a new program called Bachillerato de las Americas en Arkansas, comprised of curricula obtained from Kingston, Jamaica and Heredia, Costa Rica. I enjoy teaching all ag ... read more

I have tutored most subjects in both in middle school and high school. My most recent experience was tutoring psychology and spanish at the college level. I do not hold a teaching certificate, but I do love to teach.
I always adapt my teaching style to fit the student. I am willing to do just about anything to help a student learn a subject, so long as that student is as dedicated to learning it as I am to teaching it. It takes two people working together in order to have a sucessful tutoring session.

Many students have had the Ben Stein type of teacher thru their math schooling, and don't know the subject for its logic-based simplicity. I believe and use a little theatrics, encouragement, and patience. With these, my students can be reached. These were traits my advisor looked for us to develop in our early starts as teachers. Smart man. I saw it countless times while at the board lecturing or during my office hours at the University - a dry presentation fails. At the end of the day, I know a student needs to pass, and in the grand scheme of things, just needs to be able to balance their checkbook, but if they can leave a math course and tackle, say, a Sudoku puzzle with confidence, then I have reached them.
Thanks to my honorable service in the U.S. Air Force, I've learned the invaluable benefits of hard-work, timeliness, respect, and discipline. I gained outstanding cu ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have earned my Master's and Bachelors and am currently seeking my PHD. I enjoy learning and sharing knowledge with others. My business degrees, and over 10 years of professional experience in the workforce, I am a confident instructor in Mathematics, English and Communications. I have utilized my minor in Interpersonal Communications by making sure I explain directions and lessons in which my students can understand.
My teaching style is whatever best fits the student. When working one on one with a student I practice a few different methods of teaching and whichever one they feel the most comfortable with and I receive the most attentiveness from, is the one that I continue to use. For example, some students prefer that you walk them through a lesson, go over a few practice problems and then let them work on assignments, knowing that they have you to assist them when needed ... read more
