My goal is to be constantly building confidence in a student's abilities. I am very patient and allow the student to advance at their own pace. I enjoy being the muse that can show the student the skills they may already have but never had the knowledge to express it. I can show that learning reading and writing can be fun and not boring. A Little Bit About Me...

Everyone has style of teaching that is unique. Mine is at first appearance very laid back, but on closer inspection is very powerful and extremely effective in the long run. My strategy as a teacher is to study and assess a student first, then to develop a plan with the student regarding how we should approach a task or problem. I am big on having students develop a stronger internal locus of control, empowering them to feel capable to tackle anything that they might encounter with or without the help of others.
I first started teaching in 2003 as a substitute to supplement the income from my guiding business during the slower portion of the year. I have taught Medical Neuroanatomy to medical students at the University of Iowa Medical School. Students were directed in dissecting and identifying parts of the human brain. This occurred in small groups of five or six students. I also taught Molecular Neurobiology at Friday Harbor Laboratories to graduate students who came from around the world to take the course. This involved all parts of a laboratory class including lectures, small group discussions, and one-on-one teaching. I have also tutored numerous undergraduates in a variety of math and science areas.
