My educational background in psychology and early childhood education has given me the insight to allow student to figure out things themselves with a little prompting. My most successful tutoring has been in explaining things the way a student might relate to his own experience. Allowing time for listening gives me clues to what that experience might be.
I have tutored grades k-4 in Math, reading and english for the past six years in an after school program. I have studied child development to help me relate to elementary students. A Little Bit About Me...

I would be happy to assist students with any courses necessary, as I am confident I can help them learn. I possess strong interpersonal skills which would allow the student to feel very comfortable learning with me. Although I have no formal teaching experience, I do have been developing my teaching style for many years while I worked with the developmentally disabled. I learned to identify a teachable moment, which is a time at which the student would be most receptive to learning. As a tutor, I would create those moments and boost confidence by encouraging the student to explore the subject in the way that is most interesting to them. When a child or student asks a question, I will guide them through a thought process so they can come up with the answer themselves.
