While an undergraduate at a community college I earned three associates degrees, AS in Biology, AS in Chemistry, and an AS in Public Policy. I continued my undergraduate work at Utica College of Syracuse University and I earned a BS in Chemistry. I tutored on an off throughout my two and a half years at community college in subject areas such as chemistry, math, biology, economics and sociology.
I love helping people learn chemistry. Chemistry is a subject that seems very hard because it is a dicipline. As a tutor I will help students to develop adequate study skills. I went into teaching because I enjoy working with children. I do not think of teaching as a job. It is very rewarding to me that I can help children understand complicated material. I make things simple and use things that they already know to build on to get them to understand the material. I like to teach the children pneumatic devices to help them remember the material1. When I instruct the students, I make sure to teach the different learning styles among the children and abilities. Howard Gardener (1983) came up with a theory that there are 8 different learning styles and Carol Ann Tomlinson (2000) came up with a theory called Differentiated Instruction. As a Siena College graduate I developed a very hands on approach to active learning. Through classroom lecture and instruction I've completed the necessary coursework to complete my BS of biology. Due to my strong work ethic I've gained knowledge and skills in the physical sciences, as well as in other subject areas. During my college years I subbed as teacher at a public K-12 school. During that time I taught a variety of grade levels, and worked as a one-on-one aide.
