A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently tuoring at an Academic Development Center and Student Support Services as a psychology and math tutor. I love sharing my knowledge with others and at the same time, I learn and gain alot from my students. When students come in with questions, I will first ask them what subject is it for, does the teacher give out any guidelines about the assignment, and what difficulties you have with this assignment. If it is math problem, I'll do serveral problems step-by-step with my students. Then, I'll pick a problem that was similiar to the problem that we just worked with, and ask them to do it. If they still have problems, I'll show the steps again one more time until they get it.

I believe every child is entitled to an education regardless of any circumstance. They should strive to achieve all they can become. I try to be a teacher with patience, a good listener, and to encourage all my students with a positive attitude. My students needs come first and I try to always have extra time for them if they require it.
I became a teacher because I enjoy working with children. I enjoy helping them in their learning process. When they do well in achieving their goal it's rewarding to me. My original plan was to major in Education, but decided to double major in school, then obtain my teaching certificate after graduation. Now, armed with two degrees and a desire to enter the academic world once again -this time as the teacher - I am currently in the middle of getting my certificate for subbing, as well as seeking employment/ my certificate through Teach for America. I have gained experience that has helped me prepare to be a fantastic tutor: I took my PRAXIS exam and scored 90% on all three subject matters, I have tutored special needs students at the high school level, I have tutored ESL, and have been both a day camp and wildnerness guide, leading and teaching people of all ages and backgrounds.
