A Little Bit About Me...

My style of teaching really depends on the student and his/her learning style. Different students learn in different ways. I believe it is my responsibility to find which style works best for the student(s).
First teaching job was in a school for severely autistic children. After being there for a year I taught in a residential home for boys. This was challenging but probably one of my favorite jobs as a teacher. Because of the distance from home to work (about 1-1/2 hrs.), I applied at an urban school 20 minutes from my home. My first job there was managing the Young Parents Program. This was a program for high school girls who were pregnant or had already had a child. This program allowed the young girls to attend school. Due to budget restrictions it was cut. I was offered a position as a special education teacher in the high school. I have been doing that for the pas ... read more

Using one's strengths is the key to overcoming any weakness.

Hello Students and Parents, I would like to offer my unique skills as a doctoral candidate in clinical psychology who specializes in working with children with developmental disabilities (e.g., autism, down syndrome), learning challenges (e.g., ADD, ADHD, anxiety), and medical diagnoses (e.g., diagnoses affecting sleep, attention, processing speed, school attendance). I have also worked with many teens and would be happy to tutor those who are older and looking for some extra help. My unique contribution is that, in addition to sharing knowledge and study skills, I am trained to help children regulate difficult emotions like frustration or hopelessness or embarrassment, overcome fears and anxieties, find and maintain motivation, improve self-esteem, and use creative problem solving to maxi ... read more

Throughout all of high school and college I worked with children ages 3-15 and taught them how to swim in a Massachusetts accredited program in my hometown. Here, I was responsible for creating lessons and implementing them everyday in a 2-month summer program. In college, I was a Staff Editor and writer for our Newspaper. Here, I ran an entire section and was responsible for working with my wroters and tecahing them how to write an effective Perspectives article. I also had my own article entitled, "Amy Says."

My comments on tutoring Creative Writing : I am very artsy. great at writing short stories, letting my mind wonder, and teaching people to think about writing the way that i do

I have always been a hands on learner, so that is mostly the way i portray my lessons, by doing, instead of readin. However i also see the need in having to sit down and Get to work, because some thing are better learned on paper
i am just a twenty year old college student, Who has learned a lot in this world, and looking to pass it on to whomever it might effect. Very caring, musical, and a great people person. I have mostly learned all my people skills when i was a waiter at T.G.I. Fridays, and that combined with my love of learning brings me to this tutor position

Creative Writing is one of my top subjects!

I recently completed a degree in Creative Writing with a focus on poetry, fiction, literature, and literary and cultural theory. Completion of a thesis focusing on the deep investigation of language and narrative as they function in Postmodern Women's Poetics, with a corresponding lecture presented at Goddard College on the manifestation of the gender binary through the entrance into language and the symbolic order, and how the semioclasm of postmodern text and the interrogation of classical feminism might open up space for a new non hierarchical access to language. I also just finished 2+ years of interning at the St. Marks Poetry Project in New York City, as well as occasional involvement at Poets House, Bluestockings Bookstore Collective & Activist Center, ABC No Rio Zine Library, and the publication Showpaper, working among some of the most respected writers, artists and teachers in ... read more

College Undergrad Looking to Tutor English Students

Not only was English my favorite subject as well as the one I was most proficient in in high school, it eventually became my major in college. I majored in Journalism at The University of New Hampshire, and while I have not yet received my Bachelor's of Arts from the institution I am a mere handful of credits away from earning it (9, to be exact), an accomplishment I am attempting to achieve by transferring credits over from The Community College of Rhode Island. While attending UNH, I wrote for the school's newspaper, The New Hampshire, edited my fellow writer's work, and eventually went on to intern and temporarily work for our local Valley Breeze.
While I have never conducted a formal tutoring session, I have edited the work of my peers and more recently assisted my girlfriend's younger sister with the completion of her college essay. From my experience, I have found that I p ... read more
