Writing is one of my top subjects!

I have worked as a tutor for 5 years. I worked as a volunteer peer tutor at my high school throughout my time there and fell in love with it. I am now a freshman at Saint Louis University majoring in biology on a pre-medical track. I have tutored in a variety of subjects ranging from biology, zoology, algebra 1, algebra 2 and chemistry to english and composition.
I am a huge supporter students tutoring students. I have found that working with students helps to take down a barrier between the tutor and tutee. Students are more comfortable to work with peers than an authority. My first priority is to listen, listen to what the tutee is looking to get out of the experience. I spent 10 years directing an adult literacy program where I trained volunteers to be tutors and tutored myself. During that time I took an intensive training course on working with people with learning disabilities. I have worked with ESOL students, as well.

I truly enjoy helping children reach their full potential. I believe that children who don't understand a subject just haven't had it explained to them in their way of learning and I believe I can find their way. I use patience, understanding, and humor to ease their minds but still am able to convey a sense of high expectation of them. Then, I explain concepts to them in a variety of ways until they can comprehend the subject manner.
