I have helped my fellow students learn for nearly as long as I've been learning, myself. While attending Community College, I worked as a Peer Tutor in a wide range of subjects. While attending University, I worked as a General Subject Tutor and as a Math Tutor. I studied abroad in South Korea for one year, during which time I tutored Korean students in English and worked as a Classroom Aide and Assistant Teacher in several private schools. A Little Bit About Me...

I have a positive approach to teaching. I am very patient when I go through the lessons and go back and review any older material if it is needed in order to grasp the current lesson of the day. I work hard to make the content stick and I always enjoy to see that light of realization in their eyes when they grasp the concept I am teaching them.

I love teaching, but I especially love one on one tutoring. Students I have tutored typically have a much better understanding of the subject they are studying. A Little Bit About Me...

After I received my degree in Elementary Education, I was a substitute teacher in IA for one year. I then worked, taught and advised at a small private college in Iowa. I have also owned and operated a daycare in my home for over three years. Currently have have spent the past two years as a substitute teacher for the Buffalo, MN school district. This is a job I love for the simple fact that I have variety everyday. It is also a great way to stay up to date on all subject matter. My experience working with the Minnesota Math Corps program has allowed me to work with a variety of students who are at different levels in math. I have learned a great deal in this time about how to structure lessons for my students in ways that not only teach them the process of doing the work, but also the background information about why things work the way they do. I prefer to break a lesson up into a few parts, starting with the student being able to use manipulatives to physically show how to work throught the subject, then moving on to representational and abstract portions that allow the student to further apply and practice what they are learning.

I understand there is not one specific way to teach a subject and the key is asking questions to find out what will help a particular student.
