A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that the purpose of tutoring is to help students help themselves, or to assist or guide them to the point at which they become an independent learner. I know that the content knowledge is an essential ingredient for a tutor; however, to be truly effective, i believe a tutor must combine content knowledge with empathy, honesty and humor. In addition I demonstrate a caring attitude. Caring consists of being organized for the tutoring session, being punctual and gaining the students trust.
I studied post secondary in high school and graduated in the top ten of my class. I was on the deans list every year of my college career. I was a teachers aid at the University of Minnesota for three years in the anatomy department. I was a the lead embalmer for the University and worked for the Anatomy bequest program. I have been a substitute teacher for over a year. I have subbed for every grade level and subject. A significant amount of my sub jobs have been math related. I am working on my Master's Degree at The College of Saint Scholastica, in Education. I also have had numerous classroom field experiences through the college, where I have been observed by other teachers and professors. During these experiences, every cooperating teacher has let me use them as a reference. From substitute teaching to my prior career as a correctional officer, I have a tremendous amount of experience turning a bad situation into a good one.
