A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is very well rounded. Meaning I utilize a vast array of tools, high tech to low tech. From smart boards (promethean), webquests via the internet, to old fashioned poster board in a cooperative learning atmosphere. At Harrisburg in the urban environment, I learned to utilize many styles due to low resources and a diverse student population where I had to appeal to a diverse group of learners. I enjoy one-on-one direct teaching the best. In what ever setting I found myself in I utilized the tools I had to the best of my ability to instill knowledge and learning styles in my students.

A Little Bit About Me...

I feel it is important to understand what is different and unique about every student. Not all students will learn in the same way, nor will they find their desire to learn in the same way. I feel it is my duty as a teacher to find what these ways are for every student. Differentiation is vital to the learning process and can only be executed effectively if you know your students.
In high school I tutored junior high students who were having trouble in with school. After high school I joined the U.S Navy, where I trained junior personal for three years. I used my G.I bill Benefits to attend the University of Connecticut, where I received my Bachelors in History with a minor in Political Science. A Little Bit About Me...

I have currently completed 161 credits at Fredonia State. I am 18 credits away from being a certified teacher k-8 with a concentration is History. I have complete EDU 250 Intro to exceptional learner where I tutored a 2nd grader in reading. In this I had to create lesson plans and in the end the student improved from 5 words per minute to 25 words a minute, I received and A in the class. I also work at a before and after school program in Fredonia where I am always helping students in grades k-6 with homework.
Teaching is my passion. I work extremely well versed at working with kids. I have been working for a before and after school program for 2 years now. I believe in never giving up on any child. One of the advantages of my background is the variety of people I have worked with. Regardless of different cultures, races, socioeconomic backgrounds and ages, I have the unique ability to connect with people in a language they understand. I utilize this ability to teach by analogy, as many of the things I teach and tutor others on involve complex subjects that the student usually has no direct experience in. When not applicable (such as instructing a student in grammar usage), the other method is to encourage students to learn by doing while I coach, encourage, and draw out thoughtful answers along the way.
