My comments on tutoring Testing Strategies : Testing skills and strategies go hand in hand. As previously stated, I am extremely knowledgeable of the assessments required for k-5 students in public schools. Since this is my first year not working, my knowledge is also current.

I have taught in a first and second grade classroom for ten years, and served as a Reading Specialist for k-5 for seven. I have discovered that the most successful way to teach a child how to read is gaining their interest and full attention, while observing what learning style is best for each individual child. While teaching I use an assortment of manipulatives, repetitive phonics instruction, and books! Whatever works for your child, works for me! This is my first year not teaching in the public schools, and I am very familiar with the assessments and expectations. I have led professional development on mclass for K-3, and have years of successful experiences in preparing students for EOGs. Therefore, I also keep the expectations required from the school in mind when planning lessons. References from local schools available.

Best Tutoring By Far.....

I enjoy teaching any age student, but more than that I get satisfaction when that student attains their goal. I believe in using the Socratic method of teaching and allowing the student to get their own answers rather than just telling them. I seek to develop and foster great students who will attain excellent careers. This method can be adapted to fit any student of any age.

A Little Bit About Me...

I really enjoy working with students. My teaching philosophy is that all children can learn. I subscribe to the constructivism approach to teaching. This is where students scaffold their own knowledge from other experiences. I believe that if you can get a student interested in something they are more likely to enjoy what they are learning about and are more likely to be successful. I am cheerful, kind and enthusiastic which I also feel help encourage students to be successful learners.
I graduated from Heidelberg College in 2004 with a degree in Early Childhood Education and a Reading concentration. From there I worked as a substitute teacher until getting my own classroom in 2006 I taught 3rd grade from January 2006 until June 2008. I left that position to pursue other career options. As a St. Bonaventure University graduate, I spent two years as an Elementary Education major and finished my degree as an English major. Rigorous English classes, many hours of essay writing, and teaching Language Arts for two years, have helped me to master writing skills as well as teaching skills needed to ensure proper learning. I tutored students at an after school program in college as part of my Elementary Education major requirements. I would meet with students three times a week and help them with any homework assignment and or subject they were struggling with. After college, I took a position as a Language Arts teacher for 8th grade students. This experience has been both challenging and rewarding and has helped to better understand how to be an effective teacher.
I have always enjoyed being around children. Being able to help shape young minds and ensure that students a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is fairly laid back. I believe that all students possess the potential to learn. Teaching should be done in a multisensory method to appeal to students' senses and to help them succeed as best as they can. Each student is an individual and should be treated with respect. The learning environment that teachers provide should be nurturing, structured, and interesting to allow for students to reach their full potentials. While every student may have some weaknesses, concentrating on a student's strengths is important to help them enjoy school and find success.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a teacher, I truly believe that all children can be successful given the support and encouragement to do so. I also understand that all children learn differently and take great pride in varying my instruction strategies to meet the needs of a diverse classroom of children. I strive to incorporate as many hands-on activities as possible so that children can learn through discovery and trial and error. I believe that children learn more when engaged, and often times forget they are actually learning while exploring their surroundings!

I have not taught anyone or tutored anyone for money. However, I would like to have the oppitunity to be able to tutor children or young adults on their way of the journey of life. I too was tutored going through school and not just once. I attended Sylvin Learning Center every other year since sixth grade. It helped me understand the areas that I didnt and excel in the areas I did. I would like to give thas opportunity to someone else.
I learned through visual aid. So, I guess I would lean towards this style of teaching. However, if a student learns better with audio aid then I would be willing to combine the two methods to better educate the student. My goal is to provide the best education possible and to suceed in that is to have great communication and alittle fun doing the work that is expected.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have enjoyed tutoring over the last year. I believe that when the learning style of a child is found, that child can learn anything! I myself have always been more of a visual learner. As a tutor one must understand that every child is different and unique in their own learning abilities. A tutor should always brainstorm and find new ways to help a child learn and have fun learning.
Through earning my BA in psychology I have gained a finer understanding in people and cognitive development umong other things. In my college career I focused much on psychological disorders of children and how to help children. I have acquired excellent writing and research skills because of my educational background. I enjoy a challenging situation that enables me to focus and solve a problem. Over the last year I tutored a ten year old girl with ADHD in fifth grade on reading comprehension, writing ... read more
