Having two wonderful elementary teachers, I was inspired to become a teacher. I graduated in 1988 with an Elementary Education degree. I began my career as a teacher's aide but soon decided to be a stay-at-home mom to my two children. In 1994, I began to home teach my three children. I graduated my youngest in 2008. In 2004, I substitute taught for two local school districts. In spring 2008 I renewed my teaching license. I received my first teaching job at a Christian school in Indianapolis where I taught first grade. The school downsized so I resigned allowing the tenured teachers to keep their jobs. I learned through college that I am a very visual learner, but if the class isn’t taught that way, it’s my job to present that information in a way that helps me learn. Also, the teacher should play a dichotomous role to the student; on one hand, he or she must be patient and lenient and willing to teach the student to the best of their abilities, but also, the teacher cannot be so lenient that the student doesn’t get work done.
