A Little Bit About Me...

While at Springfield College I started tutoring some of my fellow students in the areas of math and science for a little extra cash. I have always wanted to mimic the kind of tutoring I received as a struggling math student in middle school. I was never the best at math until I started to receive tutoring and everything started to click. The extra help I got in math was essential to my studies at the university level and all my previous coursework leading up. I want to be that tutor who helped everything click.

Biology is one of my top subjects!

I am a huge supporter students tutoring students. I have found that working with students helps to take down a barrier between the tutor and tutee. Students are more comfortable to work with peers than an authority. My first priority is to listen, listen to what the tutee is looking to get out of the experience. Each student's needs are different and you have to plan around them. When I am tutoring I strive to make the tutee vocal. I like to allow students to think for themselves and see how they approach the challenge. I am there to guide their thinking process and strengthen their knowledge not lecture to them.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have 25 years experience in the civil engineering field, specifically the water resources area. I started substitute teaching at both the Lincoln Community High School and Hartem School District in 2009. I also started tutoring for Lincoln College in the Academic Success Center, last year. I tutor biology, chemistry, but especially math of all levels ... including statistics and geometry. I find that most people tend to learn best when they can relate a concept to the real world. As a result, I tend to use examples, analogies, and diagrams often when I am explaining a process or concept. I also try to incorporate hands on learning as much as possible. Everyone has a different learning style, so through interacting with my students I try to understand how they best understand the information I provide to them. I am a firm believer in nurturing curiosity and trying to provide a reason or purpose for every subject and idea, even if it is not something the student finds particularly interesting. A Little Bit About Me...

I truly enjoy helping children reach their full potential. I believe that children who don't understand a subject just haven't had it explained to them in their way of learning and I believe I can find their way. I use patience, understanding, and humor to ease their minds but still am able to convey a sense of high expectation of them. Then, I explain concepts to them in a variety of ways until they can comprehend the subject manner.
