A Little Bit About Me...

My preferred method of teaching is hands-on, through real experiments. Unfortunately, experiments cannot always be done, so I use lots of illustrations and age-appropriate analogies that are easy to relate to. Many times students are convinced that science is a subject too difficult to conquer, that they must just survive it, but science is all around us. I strive for that "a-ha" moment when a student realizes that all biological and physiological processes are interrelated and that the trick to understanding science is to build on previously learned concepts. I believe that teaching solid fundamentals and relating more difficult topics to already learned information is key to helping students thoroughly understand the subject.

I have always loved working with children and I believe I can make a positive difference in childrens' lives. Children learn through seeing, hearing, saying, feeling and doing. I try to determine which combination of learning styles are best for each individual student and then use that method to teach them the subject. I think each child wants to learn and succeed and I believe I can help them be a success. I come from a family of readers, I love to read, and I love to teach children to become good readers. In 2009 I graduated from Texas Christian University with my Masters of Divinity. This degree was heavy in reading and writing.
