Making difficult concepts in Math easier to understand!

My love of learning and teaching Math came after many years of trying to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up. I have been tutoring Math at a technical school in San Diego for 7 years. Algebra, Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus are my areas of expertise. I’ve worked with students with diverse backgrounds, both academically and culturally. Personally, I have been attending Mesa and City College in order to obtain an Associate’s in Math. I have gotten A’s in all my classes and a B in Statistics. I have completed one of several required Calculus classes. I am the type of person that will stay up all night trying to solve a difficult problem. I would welcome the opportunity of working with you or your student.
My teaching style begins with a calm and relaxed attitude. Once the student has established what he/she is having trouble with, I start going over some examples of exerci ... read more

Experienced Tutor

I began tutoring my freshman year of high school. For my fours year of high school I worked at Kumon Learning Center in Los Angeles. Here, I learned a lot of my tutoring experience. I worked with children from the ages of 5 to 17. I helped these children in math from kindergarten math all the way up to calculus, and then in reading and reading comprehension skills from the younger kindergarteners to younger high schoolers. I enjoy working with children and try to teach children in a fun way so they do not become bored and can learn to really understand and grasp concepts. I also enjoy working with teenagers and am confident that I can help all high schoolers with different subjects they struggle with. The reason why I left Kumon Learning Center is because I moved down to San Diego to begin my freshman year of college, so I am now looking forward to continue my tutoring career down here.

My comments on tutoring Trigonometry : Bachelor's degree in Mathematics.

I believe the best way to learn is hands on experience. If I don't find one way to help the student understand I will do my best to try another approach. I have 3 kids under 10, so I am patient with small children, but I expect them to be focused.
Worked about the last 20 years in the actuarial field (short stint away to get my degree), which involves data analysis in excel and access and some programming. I received my bachelor's degree in Mathematics with a minor in statistics in December of 1998. While in school I graded lower division math papers for my teachers, I taught a basic programming language as well as ran a classroom for a virtual teacher (video taped class)

My students enjoy discovering & learning Mathematics.

Have been teaching mathematics at high schools, colleges, and universities since 1981. I am an expert in teaching all mathematics courses offered at high schools and colleges, particularly all Algebra courses, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus I. Also, I have taught all Pre-College Mathematics courses to high school graduates. Although my highest college degree is not in Mathematics, but my dissertation's topic is about a unique and innovative teaching mode for Mathematics instruction.
My unique teaching method is a combination of "Discovery" method when uniquely combined with the techniques of "Positive Reinforcement". This method of teaching mathematics is the same mode of instruction that was practiced by Socrates -"Socratic teaching"- and has an additional characteristic -"Positive Reinforcement"- that was proposed by the French philosopher Piaget. More About This Tutor...

I use an innovative mode of teaching Mathematics - about which I wrote my Dissertation - that is a unique combination of the "Socratic" or "Discovery Method" and "Positive Reinforcement" techniques. This approach enables students of all ages to think independently, become interested and eager to discover facts and solution methods and procedures of various Mathematical topics and problem solving procedures. This teaching mode helps the student(s) to become independent and "eager to learn Mathematics" individual(s). .
I am a recently retired college and university Mathematics Professor, and have taught secondary school and "high school completion" Mathematics courses to the Navy Recruits as well. I have taught Mathematics courses to students of all ages: Elementary Schools(as a "Mathematics specialist"), Secondary Schools(Middle Schools/High Schools), through Colleges and Univers ... read more

My comments on tutoring Trigonometry : Taught Trigonometry at: City College, Miramar college, National University, San Diego State University, . . . . .and ogher institutions mentioned formerly!

I tarted tutoring Mathematics when I was a sophomore at College myself.I believe when one reads all the previous detailed information that I have given about my former "Discovery Teaching" and other related experience in Mathematics instruction ,training, and publications, at and for ALL LEVELS, it should be relatively evident that I AM ABLE TO PERFORM WELL as a tutor/Teacher/Instructor of the mentioned Mathematical topics. I have taught almost all Secondary schools, including ALL Mathematical topics and LEVELS(Elementary - "Socratic Method & Positive Reinforcement" Techniques, Secondary, Pre-College, College and University). I have my own unique method of instruction which was named earlier, an instruction mode that energizes, builds self-confidence and self reliance, and also, positive approach to discovering and learning Mathematics. In summary, I have taught Mathematics to students o ... read more

Break into the fierce of math ...

Break into the fierce of math and make it a pleasent hobby.
I am an Electrical Engineer with a tutoring experience on math in all levels from 6th to senior level. I have had the pleasure of growing in n educated family with mymom being a teacher and my dad was an engineer. From the begining of my schooli days, I had the way of challenging myself in different fields of math and physics. Exploring and learning higher levels of topics in these two fields made me achieve very high levels of education among amongst same age people.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored in the past with my friends and have been told that I am very effective. I feel that I would make a great tutor because I enjoy teaching other what I know. I have also filled in for my teacher while she was away to teach classes such as statics and dynamics at the undergrad level. The students seemed to have enjoyed my way of teaching. I have also assisted in teaching the reinforced concrete design also at the undergrad level. I feel I could be a good tutor for subjects like math, physics, and engineering classes at both high school and undergrad level.

I have 4+ years of experience developing in python 2.7 and Pygame, with working game examples being mainly a LightCycle game. I have an ongoing understanding of Java, C#, and JavaScript which continue to advance since July 2013. I have completed a high school level course which covered HTML, Visual Basic, and Python, passing with an A. I'm an incoming freshman at UCSD, but I've completed the SPIS program which has students create image manipulation programs, create fractals, and encode ASCII messages inside pictures, all of which utilizes recursion and looping. I have experience programming with 3D objects in Unity, although I'm new at it.
Hands on - I'd prefer if those who I tutor had a computer to experiment on. Learning through doing is the best way.
