Normally, I am able to advance a child a grade level in reading with three months of tutoring and reinforcing homework, during the summer. Children's church is where a year of my experience comes from. I would guide a group of children during the service and would spend individual time with those who wanted to brush up on their reading and writing. I enjoyed every minute of this experience and can say I made an impact in those children's lives.

Upon graduation from school, I moved to Guatemala, where I was an English teacher to Spanish-speaking students for a year. While there, I was able to work on both my Spanish and teaching skills. I have since been able to help English speakers enhance their Spanish proficiency State-side. I am currently working on my Masters in Counseling.
Each student is different, so addressing how best to teach each one will vary. I have found that the key to helping language students learn is first finding what will motivate them to learn. Learning a new language opens up a whole new world to the student, one they have never known before. Building off of a student's extra-curricular interests- sports, music, art, fashion, or anything else- transforms learning a language from repeating verb charts to becoming more apt to pursuing his interests in an international way.
