My comments on tutoring Spelling : Bad spelling and grammar are two of my biggest pet peeves.

I don't any paid, professional tutoring experience. However, I have volunteered my services to family members and friends. During my sophomore year, I took Organic Chemistry and excelled. However, my friends were struggling. They hated me a bit for how easy it came to me. I decided to tutor them and help them with homework assignments and studying. They ended up doing very well on the exams, allowing them to secure a 3.0 or higher in the course. I also had to regular help my classmates out with more complex problems in Physics. I was not so much tutoring as working together with them on the homework, but still, it involved clear explanation and a thorough knowledge of the subject matter.

I have 16 years teaching elementary grades 1 through 3. During this time I taught Compensatory Education for 2 years in 1st grade, 4 years in 2nd grade and 1 year in third grade. In the Compensatory Education classes I would receive the poorest readers and worked with them throughout the school year. The 3rd grade Comp-Ed class all started as poor readers and ended the year by all passing the reading portion of the Texas TAAS test. I had a 1st grade class for 5 years and 2nd grade for 4 years. Besides having eleven years of teaching experience in the classroom, I have seven years of one-on-one tutoring experience with students in grades K-12.
