After college I worked for three years.During that time I applied and received a scholarship to the Medical College of Pennsylvania, from which I graduated in 1994. I completed an Internal Medicine Residency at MCP in 1997. After residency I worked as an attending physician in Pittsburgh from 1997 to 2000, and in Berlin, Maryland, from 2001 to 2004. In January, 2004, my wife became severely ill, and I decided to take time off to raise my two young daughters. I taught at the Dawn Training Center in Wilmington, DE, from May to October, 2006. I also have extensive experience teaching junior housestaff and Nurse Practitioner trainees.
I have a fairly informal teaching style, and I tend to use a lot of humor. I try to connect the information I am trying to convey to what the student already knows, rather than simply provide facts to be learned by rote and regurgitated on an exam.

A Little Bit About Me...

After having the opportunity to tutor one-on-one and as a whole class, I have discovered that each student learns in a unique way. Some of the students were visual learners, while others needed more tactile experiences. Other students benefited from auditory learning. As a tutor, it is my responsibility to evaluate each student and determine what methods will work best with that individual.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a practiced 7 year High School Math Teacher, I have experienced students continue to struggle in math. Therefore, I developed a step-by-step approach to tutoring in which the student becomes an organized, motivated individual with enhanced study skills. In addition, I am especially knowledgeable in the education field and use several styles of instruction based upon the students’ unique needs. I have studied such styles from my education at Penn State and Temple Universities. I have provided professional development for staff about curriculum and instruction in the area. As I continue my own education, I continue to take pleasure in tutoring and include techniques to make the experience enjoyable and relaxed.
Since I was a high school student, I always loved math and helping others understand the material. It was then that I realized that I wanted to teach math the way my f ... read more

I believe teaching should be an evolving, natural thing that constantly takes into account all the strengths and weaknesses presented, so that the student can learn the best way for him or her. It helps to get to know each student a bit so that the style needed is discovered and as many barriers as possible are brought down. I also try to keep engagement up by bringing in tangents of interest that the student can relate to in order to make it more understandable and applicable to his or her's life. Education should be a dynamic, stimulating experience for everyone.

A Little Bit About Me...

In high school and college I admired my teachers, especially in the sciences. After I got my PhD I went for academic positions, and very much enjoyed teaching physics and the other physical sciences. (In fact, I concentrated so much on my teaching that I didn’t get the research funding necessary for tenure.) A series of adjunct positions gave me experience in teaching earth sciences, meteorology, astronomy; chemistry at various levels. As a substitute teacher in Philadelphia I worked with middle school and high school students who had a variety of attitudes toward school. In adult night school I taught fundamental math (arithmetic) and the history of physics. Along the way I was a free-lance tutor, helping high-school students with sciences, math, and computer programming. Last summer I taught physics in the evening at a for-profit technical school. I am eager to get back to teac ... read more

It's important for every teacher to believe that every student has the capability to learn. Public education, as well as education in general requires teachers to be fair and enforce equality in the classroom. Education serves many purposes, but its most important function is to prepare students for life. Students must be able to use the knowledge they gain in schools to improve themselves and their future. Courses should teach students information that will directly benefit them. It' ... read more
