Turning your weakness into your strength

I help guide the student along, having them discover much of the information in a trial and error fashion. I tend to use the questions they are struggling with the most, making similar examples, then walking them through these problems and breaking down the problems until the student understands the how the process works.
I have been tutoring for over seven years, starting with my peers in tenth grade. I have tutored a wide range of subjects, from Geometry through Calculus III, from general computer knowledge through utilizing the advanced functions of Microsoft Access. A Little Bit About Me...

My goal is to engage each and every student in the classroom in some aspect of the lesson being conducted. Perhaps I can relate the lesson to experiences in their own lives, or I can tap into their knowledge of, or interest in, a particular subject. Students will not be interested in any lesson if the teacher does not care if they are interested. Students should not be dull-eyed receivers of information that a teacher is megaphoning over their heads: they should be participators in all aspects of the learning process.
The only teaching experience I have is the student teaching I did at Andrews High School in High Point in 1993 as part of the teaching program at UNC-Greensboro. This month I graduated from Southeastern University magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a minor in history.
